When do i need a locksmith?

You may need a locksmith in many situations. You maybe locked out of your home, work place or vehicle, a locksmith can help gain access to all of the above. Been broken into or had keys stolen? Locksmiths rekey locks to make old keys obsolete. They also repair and install new locks for doors, windows, gates and more. Unlocking and making keys for locks that you may have misplaced keys for is one of our skills. Security survey, access control, restricted key systems and safes are a few more things a locksmith may offer. As well as making keys for you vehicle.

Im locked out!

Majority of us have locked ourselves out at least once. Sometimes a loved one may not be far away with a spare but other times you have no choice but to call a locksmith. I often see people break a window to access the property or vehicle. This is dangerous, I’ve seen people injured and more often that not this actually costs more to have the window replaced than it may have cost to call a locksmith out. We can usually have you back into your property 30-60 minutes from the time you call. Our methods of gaining entry do not damage your locks, the existing keys will still work as they did previously. Call us for help 0422207815.

I've been broken into. What should I do?

If you have been unfortunate enough to have been broken into we highly recommend you have your locks changed and security survey of the property done. By determining the entry point of the attack we would upgrade the security on that particular point to begin with. Any other weak points should be addressed if you choose to follow the locksmiths recommendations. Once all doors and windows have been secured with correctly functioning deadlocks we can rekey all existing locks and issue new keys. This ensures all previous working keys are made redundant.

Can I make one key all my locks?

The answer is yes. We can key all your locks in the house up to one key. Often we can rekey all the locks and the job is done. Other times we may have to change a lock or cylinder to suit the same style of key. This is because some lock manufactures use different profile of keys.  You can determine if your locks can be keyed alike by taking the key you would like to work throughout the property and inserting it into the key way of all of the locks. If the key goes into the key way but doesn’t turn it can be keyed alike with no issues. If the key does not go into the key way it means the profile is different. If you are adamant of having them all keyed alike find a key that fits in majority of the locks and we can change the other locks to a brand that is compatible with the keys. This would be the most cost effective way for you to achieve your goal.

What are deadlocks and do I need them?

A deadlock or deadlatch are locks that cannot be opened by forward pressure on the locking mechanism. Generally speaking these locks are keyed from both the inside and outside unless on a fire exit door. It is important you have deadlocks on all external door and windows. Not only is it a lot stronger but also from an insurance point of view it is important. By having deadlocks on all external door and windows it means if you are broken into, The intruder cannot leave the property quickly with your belongings. Forcing them to leave property the way the came in. This slows them down and restricts what they can take from the property. Not sure if you locks meet insurance requirements? Contact us today and we can asses your property to make sure it meet all requirements.

Fire exit door reguations?

Any fire door should not be fit with a deadlock that requires a key to unlock it. Nor should it have any mechanism that stops the door being opened with one arm in a downward motion. Fire exit door should be fit with only one locking mechanism and be fit between 900-1100 from the floor. Fire exit doors should have illuminated exit signs above to show exit route. Also make sure no door leading through or to a fire exit door is locked with anything that may stop persons accessing the exit door. This is a very strict and serious subject. It is highly recommended you have a locksmith attend the premises to make sure you, your staff and customers are safe in the building while still having a good level of security protecting the door from the attacks from the outside.

Why rekey locks?

Rekeying locks is generally the most cost effective way of changing the keys for a lock. I often see people go to Bunnings or similar stores and purchase a $10-$40 lock. Yes this may achieve the same thing however. More often than not they are replacing a $50-$300 lock with a far less superior item. Keeping your belongings and family safe is something that should not be overlooked. Don’t be fooled by these cheap locks. They may not survive an attack if it happens or may need to be replaced after a short period.

Ive lost my keys, what should I do?

You have lost your keys. You have two options, you can either make keys for the existing lock and they key stays the same as before. The second and preferred option is to rekey the lock. By rekeying the lock the old keys will no longer work, this is ideal for lost or stolen keys.

I can't open my safe!

There a several lock types found on safes. Some open with a key, others a mechanical dial or maybe its an electronic key pad. We can open your safe, make keys or reset the combination for you. Sometimes we can open the safe without damaging it, other times it will need to be drilled to gain access to it. We also repair them once we can open them if it requires it. We also supply and install quality safes. Please note there are many factors to consider when purchasing a safe. We recommend contacting us so you select the correct safe according to what will be stored inside it, making sure you are covered.
